What is residential conveyancing?

Residential conveyancing is the legal process of transferring the ownership of a property from one person to another. It typically involves the transfer of title deeds and other documents, as well as the payment of stamp duty and other fees. The conveyancing process can be complex, so it's important to seek professional legal advice before proceeding.

Residential conveyancing typically involves the following steps:

1. The buyer and seller agree on a price for the property.

2. The buyer instructs a conveyancing solicitor to act on their behalf.

3. The solicitor carries out necessary searches, such as checking for planning permission or outstanding mortgages on the property.

4. They also draw up the contract of sale, which is signed by both parties.

5. Once everything is in order, the completion date is agreed and the buyer pays the deposit.

6. On completion day, the balance of the purchase price is paid and ownership of the property is transferred to the buyer. The keys are then handed over and everyone moves into their new home!

The whole process can take several weeks or even months to complete, so it's important to be patient and have realistic expectations. Conveyancing can be a complex and stressful process, but with the help of a solicitor it can be smooth and straightforward. So if you're thinking of buying or selling a property get in touch with us to learn how we can help.
