Merseyside Information

Merseyside is located in the North West of England and lies on the eastern side of the River Mersey estuary. It plays host to a large number of cities and towns, including Liverpool, Southport, Wirral, St Helens and Sefton.

Motorway Access

The M6 motorway runs through Merseyside's borders, and provides easy access to both the north and south of England. The M57 also runs through Merseyside, linking Liverpool with Wigan. In addition, the Wirral Peninsula has direct road links to North Wales.

Logistics

Merseyside is served by two international airports – John Lennon Airport in Liverpool and Robin Hood Airport near Wirral – as well as several docklands areas around the River Mersey estuary. This makes it an ideal location for businesses looking to import or export goods from Europe or beyond.

Industry

Merseyside’s economy is based largely on tourism, retail and manufacturing. The county is home to many large international companies such as Nestlé, Unilever and PepsiCo, while the tourism industry is supported by popular attractions like Albert Dock in Liverpool.

Population

Merseyside has a current population of 1.38 million people according to the 2011 census, making it one of England’s most densely populated counties. Around 70% of Merseyside's population lives within 10 miles of Liverpool city centre.

Investment

Recent years have seen considerable investment into Merseyside’s infrastructure and economy. This includes the £1 billion regeneration scheme for Liverpool’s waterfront, and a £1.5 billion investment into transport links such as high-speed rail.

As well as public investment, Merseyside has also seen increasing levels of private investment from overseas companies looking to take advantage of its excellent location and skilled workforce. All in all, Merseyside is an ideal place to invest and make the most out of your money.
