North East Lincolnshire is located in the North East of England, on the east coast of England and bordered by South Yorkshire to the south-west, and with Humber Estuary and North Sea to its east. It covers an area of approximately 58.1 square miles (150 km2) as a unitary authority.
Motorway Access
The main arterial road into the area is the A180 which links it directly to Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Sheffield in the South West. The A18 runs through Grimsby connecting Grimsby and Cleethorpes with Louth in Lincolnshire while other major roads link Immingham with Hull and Scunthorpe to the north. There are excellent connections to the M180, M18, M62 and A1(M) motorways; Cleethorpes is a mere 15 minutes away from the Humber Bridge, making it an ideal location for companies using road transport.
Logistics
North East Lincolnshire provides excellent logistics opportunities with its close proximity to major cities such as Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds. Additionally, Grimsby has direct access to the port of Immingham which offers daily freight services throughout Europe and beyond. The area also has several airports located nearby such as Humberside International Airport in Kirmington which is only 25 miles away and Doncaster Sheffield International Airport is 60 miles away.
Industry
North East Lincolnshire has a diverse economy with a strong emphasis on food processing, engineering and manufacturing. With the presence of major multinational corporations such as Heinz, Mars Food UK Ltd and SeaJamm in Grimsby, the area is increasingly becoming an attractive destination for investors. Additionally, there is significant investment in renewable energy sources such as wind power which adds to its appeal.
Population Number
In 2019, North East Lincolnshire had a population of 165,400 residents according to estimates from the Office of National Statistics (ONS). This figure is projected to grow significantly over the next decade as more people move into and invest in the area.
Investment
Over the last few years, North East Lincolnshire has seen an influx of investment from both public and private sources. The Government has invested heavily in the local economy by funding several regeneration projects such as the Grimsby Town Centre Renewal Project and North East Lincolnshire Council’s Local Development Framework which was designed to improve public services and encourage economic growth. Additionally, there are a number of private investors who have contributed significant sums of money towards developing business parks, offices and retail spaces within Grimsby.
