Located in north-eastern England, North Yorkshire is a historic county that covers 8,654 square kilometres and has a population of just under 1.2 million people (as of 2021). The region has strong motorway connections with the rest of the UK via the A1(M) which forms its northern border and the M62 which passes through the west of North Yorkshire.
Logistics
North Yorkshire’s logistics infrastructure is well developed and includes two deep-water ports on its east coast, at Scarborough and Whitby. Other airports include Leeds Bradford International Airport and Teesside International Airport. Regular ferry services operate across to Hull from Scarborough.
Industry
The county’s economy is mainly based on services, with tourism being a significant contributor. Other important industries include food manufacturing, engineering and motor vehicle production. The farming sector also plays an important part in the region’s economic activity.
